Review of The Conformist (1971) by Amy D — 21 Dec 2007
I am not as impressed with this film as I wanted to be. It's widely acclaimed by filmmakers, but the actual story isn't very deep at all. The cinematography is great, but the light and dark contrasts are overdone. The so-called "interesting" examination of sexuality is so shallow it hurts.
This film is by no means bad. In fact, it's well done and makes for good viewing. My only complaint is that so many people think this is the greatest film of all time whenever there are so many better, edgier films that actually have more mature things to say.
