Review of The Conformist (1971) by Niccolo F — 04 Nov 2008
This may be my new favourite film of all time. The directing is the best I've ever seen. The camera movement and mise-en-scene are unbelievable. The shots are framed so well and the figures/objects are placed interestingly to create spectacular compositions.
The use of colour by Bertolucci and the lighting by Storaro are mind blowing and make this film a masterpiece. Every element of the filmmaking process is executed brilliantly and is a must see. I wish I knew Italian, then the translation from Italian to English wouldn't distort the brilliance of Bertolucci's screenplay.
