Review of The Conformist (1971) by Mikey M — 26 Apr 2011
"He'll be a typical intellectual, negative and impotent".
It's difficult to take your eyes off the screen when watching this gorgeous film - the photography is nothing short of stunning. It's also an altogether thoughtful character study about a man torn both politically and morally. The film often gets away from itself tonally with the classic uber-moody scenes and performance misdemeanors that I associate with Italian cinema, but that is part of what makes this film so original I guess.
