Review of The Company Men (2010) by Roxanne R — 11 Jun 2011
Terrific performance and script!! A story that resonates with MILLIONS of people suddenly unemployed in America and what they have to go through to make ends meet...Takes place during 2008 and 2009 when recession hit America the worst.
Scant minutes into "The Company Men," Bobby, a hotshot executive who was earning $160K per year and played by Ben Affleck, gets fired from a Boston-area shipbuilding company along with other executives.
He ignores his wife's pleas to cut back on expenses. He leaves abusive messages on an ex-employer's voice mail. He pops off at job interviewers who suggest less pay for less glamorous positions.
So Bobby, Phil (Chris Cooper) and Gene (Tommy Lee Jones) find themselves out of a job, out of a 6 figure salary and must adapt and overcome which is very difficult for Phil and Gene since they are in their 60's.
. "With humor, pathos, and keen observation, writer-director John Wells introduces us to the new realities of the American life"...oh folks this is a must see movie and pray that never happens to any of us! Added to my private collection.
