Review of The Company Men (2010) by Michael M — 23 Oct 2011
During the 2010 recession the GTX Corporation must cut jobs to improve the company's balance sheet and thousands of employees takes the hit, like Bobby Walker (Ben Affleck), his boss Gene McClary (Tommy Lee Jones) and Bobbys colleague Phil Woodward (Chris Cooper). Bobby learns the real life consequences of not having a job and the day to day struggle to figure out how to survive. Not only does he see a change to his family lifestyle, and the loss of his home, but also his feelings of self-worth..
Not that many movies has touched the financial crisis the world has been shaken by since 2008, and "The Company Men" feels very much up to date. What happens to Bobby happens to a large number of people globally everyday as we speak. I have been there. I know how it feels and I know what it means. But, in a situation where you lose your job, it normally leads to something better in one way or another. That is my experience. It is hard when it happens and it is a struggle, but that is when you need to bring out your survival instinct. "The Company Men" is solid on most levels and worth a watch.
