Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Colton D — 31 Aug 2009
Beautifully shot and an ending so powerful it almost makes you forget the tonal misguidance of the 2 hours leading up to it. The story deals with some dark and intense themes, but it often feels like Spielberg doesn't quite know what to do with the overall tone.
I was feeling somewhat frustrated until it was surprisingly redeemed by a glorious ending of spirituality, music, and love.
