Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Json J — 12 Sep 2009
A powerful movie that acts as a social commentary on love, race, sexuality, and religion among others. Spielberg usually gets the crap beaten out of him for being too sentimental but this is one of his films where he was able to utilize it in its full effect.
With exceptional performances especially from Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey. Keep the box of Kleenex handy.
