Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Henni K — 28 Nov 2009
I was disappointed by this. The parts that the director seemed most comfortable filming were the few and fleeting moments of comedy. The sense of period was great and the setting was beautiful but none of the characters seemed to share any chemistry.
I think I blame the actors for this as much as the directors as Spielberg has done many films with big hearts, alas this left me feeling oddly cold at the supposed emotional climax.
