Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Dj W — 16 Sep 2009
A lot better than I was expecting. Whoopi Goldberg is a terrific dramatic actress who unfortunately got thrust into bad comedies. She dominates the film with a powerful yet subtle performance. Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey also own their roles and deliver powerful supporting performances.
This is definitely not a lesser Spielberg film and I'm surprised it took me until now to see it.
