It's based on a fiction. The color purple means royalty. It's a sad story about a girl live with a wealthy husband but treats her like a labor. She is a kind girl and doesn't fight back. Luckily, her sister saved her life.
The faith of love between sisters, even, they are far part, they still bond so tight!! In the end, she left her husband and become a successful woman with her own career. Guess who play this role? You are going to believe, it's young Whoopi Goldberg!! The director is Steven Spielberg.
