Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Brandan W — 08 Jan 2011
The one overtly noticeable thing technically speaking from "The Color Purple" is it's many interesting editing transitions. Look for them as you watch this African American turn-of-the-century tale.
The cast is exceptional, and I was surprised to find myself agreeing with the fact that Oprah has an Oscar nom. Her performance is spectacular, as is this very touching multi-layered story. This is a Spielberg drama that shouldn't be missed.
It's story and characters alone make this film very special, and Spielberg's direction adds to it.
