Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Spiritual P — 03 May 2012
I like this movie alot because it is not afraid to be brutally honest. It shows the horrors of not only blacks and what they faced in the early to mid 1900's but it also shows that even worse horrors can exist within your own home.
I thought the whole cast did a fantastic job and the writing was really well done too. I particularly liked the fact that the main character Celie wouldn't stand up for herself but when Love was reawakened in her she fought without flinching.
I also like that the story's most vile character Albert "Mister" eventually fell under the weight of his own shortcomings and then, eventually, atleast tried to make it right. A great movie all around and one I recommend to all with a IQ above a piece of fruit, which I find nowadays will probably mean very few, lol.
