I can't deny Spielberg's award that it was good but The Color Purple just wasn't for me. The 'rape' scenes and incest just creeped me out beyond belief. The best role in my opinion was Oprah's and even though the story had a 'happy' ending, it still creeped me out.
It was good and I see why people liked it but it's just not one I'd watch more then once.
