Review of The Color of Money (1986) by Papo O — 13 Sep 2009
My least favorite Martin Scorsese film. A real disappointment from a director who just about never disappoints. Great performances (except from Cruise who overacts), some good direction and a few good shots, but it also has a bad story, bad premise, and some of the scenes are really distracting.
It doesn't have the dynamic energy and (as Roger Ebert put it) the electricity that is present in all the other films he made. It's a good movie, but this so below Scorsese's level. What was he thinking when he was making this movie?? Why did he bother to make this sequel to THE HUSTLER? Why? Why? Why?
