Review of The Color of Money (1986) by Jeff V — 06 Feb 2011
Cruise plays an arrogant immature prick - what a stretch. Newman's portrayal of a former pool hustler turned liquor salesman and pool stake horse, who now has a chance to mentor the prick and then to get back into the game himself, but has to cope with aging, his own maturation, and the game having changed over the years, makes the film watchable.
Barely. The other characters are all just bit players, though some of them do it well - nothing significant happens to any of them. A movie for fans of the character study, not fans of action, romance, adventure, science fiction, comedy, etc.
