Review of The Color of Money (1986) by Alex A — 01 Aug 2011
I'm torn over this movie. I loved The Hustler, and seeing more of Paul Newman oozing cool as Fast Eddie is great. Scorcese directs with showy flair, there's a cheesy 80s soundtrack, and even Tom Cruise's natural ability to annoy and irritate has its place here.
But it just sorts of tails off. The ending is crying out for some long con twistiness, or a proper conclusion for any of the characters, but it just stops. So a four star film loses a star for a crap ending, and another for casting Tom Cruise - always a mistake.
