Review of The Color of Money (1986) by Matthew C — 15 May 2012
Paul Newman returns to one of his most famous roles 25 years after he originated it in "The Hustler". As unnecessary sequels made more than 20 years later go...this could be worse. "Fast Eddie" has left the game of pool and now owns a pool hall.
..but he gets the fire in his belly when he sees this new kid on the block, played by Tom Cruise. Having Scorsese as director is probably a big reason this isn't horrendous...well that and having the fantastic Paul Newman back in the lead.
This isn't as good as the original, and it isn't even ranked among the best of Scorsese's work, but it is an okay little movie.
