Review of The Color of Money (1986) by Rhys D — 04 Apr 2013
Looks great visually from Scorsese since he is well known for his agressive camera tracking techniques but as the story progresses, these characters have no where to go. I wanted something to happen but even when the film tries to i'm stuck with a wtf? expression.
If there is a flaw with TCOM it is the plot and the tiring use of Teacher/student cliches. It's weird because does Eddie Felson want to teach Vincent or use him? At times, I don't even think Paul Newman knows what he wants to get out of Vincent or his girlfriend.
The final duel between Eddie Felson and Vincent is sort of a letdown, since they should have fought each other for real. Maybe another filmmaker could have tried for a third film and a better understanding of Eddie Felson and Vincent because I was totally dumbfounded and stumped.
