Review of The Collector (1965) by Alyssa N — 16 Oct 2008
Creepy and fascinating psychological thriller about a man who becomes obsessed with and kidnaps a beautiful art student. Terence Stamp is brilliant, and he plays the balance between misunderstood loner and dangerous psychopath flawlessly.
But that's not to say the talented Samantha Eggar can't keep up. The pacing here is great, too, because between those scenes of heightened tension that will have you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, we also get dialogue-based scenes of captive and captor interacting.
It's intriguing to see the twists their relationship takes, wondering all the while if he will give in or if she will. Both of these and more are possibilities in this unsettling, unpredictable drama-thriller.
