Review of The Collector (1965) by Carfax A — 31 Jul 2009
Just saw this flick last week and was blown away by a couple of aspects...This movie is really a foreshadowing of what modern horror movies will become and, unfortunately ,what we are seeing in the news these days....But this works on a much tamer level and not so grisly, though just as shocking.
Terrance Stamp kidnaps this girl he has his eye on and keeps her in a cellar, furnished with all the luxuries of home, in hopes that she will fall in love with him....Itâ??s a interesting concept because he really starts out very polite and curtious to her....This movie is not about rape or torture but about acceptance. This is all he wants from her...is to be loved and excepted. Of course ,his twisted and crazed mind can't understand that what he has done is wrong or why she would not love him........
I really have to think that when this movie was released in 65, it must have caused some controversy due to the subject matter.....So grab the kids, put then in the cellar, and enjoy Zods early days....
