Review of The Collection (2012) by John L — 22 May 2013
The reviews I had read for this film were mostly negative. I did read one review which said, "if you enjoyed the collector, give it a shot." I think it sums up the movie greatly. I was really enthusiastic about the collector because I considered it a one of a kind thriller.
Many thrillers made today are remakes or plots of previously made films of the genre. I wasnt going to rent it, but Im glad I did. Granted, there are some over-the-top parts when it can become corny. However, the female lead is very strong and they bring back the original main protagonist from the first film.
I am very much a fan of his character; which grows stronger throughout the film. There could be more character development, but overall I enjoyed the run. The film starts off as a triller from the begining (which I like) no beating around the bush, get right to it please.
It kept my interest througout and you began to understand the collectors motives from the setting and props. It kept me on the edge of my seat and rooting for the lead characters until the very end. Like another critic stated, and I firmly agree upon; if you enjoyed the first film you will also enjoy this sequel! I am actually hoping for a third, if they can continue the originality.
