Review of The Cobbler (2014) by Quinton M — 22 Mar 2015
There is a sweet magic to a simple fairy tail. Like all good fairy tails it is gently paced and has it's darker moments. This movie never seems to go too far with the sincerity or the darkness or even the comedy.
It manages to touch several emotional points at a similar amplitude. Sandler's character isn't fiddling with his phone every 3 seconds or even seemingly interested in technology of any kind. His profession seems unnecessary in a world of disposable imported goods.
The magic in this movie comes directly from an antique tool. It's almost an allegory for those craftsman in the world who still enjoy using hand tools. The movie almost crosses into superhero territory on a small and reserved scale.
The supporting Buscemi and Hoffman were wonderful around the reserved Sandler. Overall this is a sweet fairy tail for those who are a bit taxed by all the overly epic options we've been accustomed too.
