Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I would give this a full 5 stars, if there was anything about this movie that would point it towards being a prequel to the first Cloverfield, regardless of the final 3 seconds of the movie.
The technology does not even remotely match anything from 2008, and shouldn't be considered a prequel, much less as a valid installment of the Cloverfield franchise. Was seamless integration of 2008 technology and aesthetic too difficult for you, Abrams?
