Review of The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) by Yatsura U — 27 Aug 2018
- No character arc. No, seriously. Not even a bad one. Just none.
- continously switching the main character. sometimes its the black lady, then its the german guy, then black lady again, then its the new blonde girl, then the german guy again. they changed from scene to scene.
- way too long intro (to drag time I guess?).
- characters are constantly shouting at each other. not a single normal conversation. feels like Jersey Shore or any other "Reality Show".
- no direction for the atmosphere: characters & plot are ultraserious, yet some scenes want to be funny out of nowhere. it doesnt fit at all.
- second half of the movie turns into the SciFi version of "The Adams Family". No joke. An autonomous arm who can write (yep, Im serious), an amputee who just lost a limb and from then on continously cracks jokes about it. And of course, there is no blood anywhere and those people act like "Looney Tunes in space".
- way too many astronauts on a space station who dont have any job or task to do and no reason to be there whatsoever.
- no medications or doctors for long-time-stay in space, but some random animals? ok...sure...
- no preparations for anything. every character is improvising the whole time.
- When they lose contact to earth, they dont do anything about it. They need days and a coincidence to get the idea to adjust their radio transmitters. yep, true professionals at work right there...
- Godzilla walks through the city, yet no news channel reports anything about it.
- space station turns into a transformer, yet nobody gives a fck and continues acting like nothing happened whatsoever.
- apparently there is gravity in space.
This movie is incredibly bad. I dont know what else to say. Its not even "funny bad". The actors tried their best, its not their fault.
