Review of The Class (2007) by Jack G — 21 Mar 2009
If not the best film made in recent memory about the classroom experience then at least the most realistic. I could relate so strongly to this group of kids since I was one, and you were too. The little dramas that are shown are amplified by the style; a friend of mine might call it a "talking-heads" movie, but a naturalistic film about a Parisian urban school in what would be for the US 8th grade should be done in this style.
All of the acting, from non-professionals mostly, is excellent, and the main drama around one student in particular is stagerring in its power not because of what happens but because of what leads up to it, how the conflict is dealt with entirely.
It's an extraordinary film.
