The Circus (1928) is an absolute joy to watch. It is the story of Chaplin's timeless 'Tramp' character's accidental foray into the life of a circus performer, where he falls in love with the beautiful but downtrodden daughter of the circle master.

It is filled with hilarious slapstick comedy which is perfectly executed throughout; the film also effortlessly becomes touchingly sentimental. You will laugh, you will cry, feel joyous and sad...it really is a perfect film.

I could literally talk about this film for hours, analyse it scene by scene and reel off page after page of writing about just how brilliant a film it is; but (for once) I am not going to. I will simply ask you to watch this film for yourself.

I feel that over analysing The Circus (1928) would only serve to take away the pure enchantment of it. Chaplin?s reputation as a perfectionist is well deserved and it would be difficult to not feel touched by the ultimate sacrifice of one?s happiness for another?s which is so key to the story and beautifully executed.

The film culminates with one of the most iconic images of cinema history; a final scene which does this landmark film justice...100%.
