Review of The Circle (2017) by Bradley M — 28 Apr 2017
Not as bad as everyone says it is. Trust me whenever I say that people are being ignorant giving it a one star, because while I don't have a problem with people having their own opinions of movies, there are enough good things here to not give it a 1 star.
THE GOOD: Most of the cast does a pretty good job. Tom Hanks does a great job as always, John Boyega proves that there is more to look forward to in 'Detroit' than Kathryn Bigelow's direction. Emma Watson isn't great (you can hear her accent some times) but is still pretty decent in her role. A standout in the movie is Bill Paxton in his last role. One of the best parts of the movie is the concept. And while it doesn't exactly execute the story or the concept that well, it is still OK and is quite enjoyable (and no, it is not boring like others are saying.).
THE BAD: Let me start off by saying that by far the worst part of this movie is Karen Gillan's atrocious acting, with one of the most over the top and inconsistent accents that I have ever heard in a movie. She is so bad that after she is already the only part of my favorite movie that I will acknowledge is bad, she is even worse than I could have possibly imagined. Like I already said, the execution of the isn't as good as it should be. Despite having a great director on board like James Ponsoldt, the directing is quite weak. While this isn't any fault to the film itself, I can assure everyone that this movie is better than the source material deserves, and that if you thought this movie was boring, than you'd shoot yourself if you had to read the book. The ending also is left way to wide open, without explaining SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERS.
What happens to either CEO of the company, what they did to deserve it in the first place, and not even a glance as to what the future of the circle holds once they are gone. NO MORE SPOILERS.
Overall not a great film, but it is decent and I found myself enjoying it most of the way through 6.3/10.
