Before Rounders came out in 1998, this was the all-time classic poker movie that everybody "had to see." I hadn't watched it until 2007, and I was pleasantly surprised.
I thought it would be, basically, a bad western, with poker playing mixed in. It actually had a pretty good plot, however, and although not all the acting was good (I was disappointed by McQueen's performance), I still thoroughly enjoyed the movie. (It's worth noting that Edward G. Robinson's performance is excellent!).
It's probably #3 on my "poker movie" list, behind Rounders and Maverick.
