Review of The Cider House Rules (1999) by Jason W — 06 Oct 2010
"The Cider House Rules" takes place in Maine with the second world war as it's backdrop. The protagonist is Homer Wells, and naive, gentle orphan raised by the fatherly Dr. Leach. It looks at life in all aspects; birth, death, love and lost.
I found the film a little legubrious at times and touching the other. Life is precious, which means at times it has to be sacrificed for others. Abortion, incest, war and relationships are the foci of the film.
A decent film that could have been a little edgier.
