Review of The Cider House Rules (1999) by Jeff B — 14 Sep 2010
A film about control with almost every scene serving to examine control (or lack thereof) over one's decisions, one's destiny, and one's surroundings. All of the characters in the film are dealing with this issue, and I think it's a very thought-provoking film. The film uses the sensitive subject of abortion in a way that transcends the politics of topic; it focuses not on the execution, but in the motivation and substance behind it.
I think this was a tremendously beautiful and human story. Well done again, Mr. Hallstrom.
