The Chronicles of Riddick is set up really well and looks really cool within the first 2 minutes, thanks to the excellent visual effects, the great costumes and the cool location.

The Chronicles of Riddick also successfully fuses elements of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings which are my 2 favourite film series so I got a kick out of that.

The cast was also good and lead in a fairly strong role by Vin Diesel kicking more ass than in Pitch Black, securing it as a large improvement over its predecessor.

It also features decent action and a fairly good musical score.

The Chronicles of Riddick succeeded at what it was setting it out to achieve, except at making enough money.

Still, it has significant flaws.

The Chronicles of Riddick features choppy editing and mixed quality cinematography that is mostly poor in the action scenes due to zooming in too much.

And the pacing is also slow and the entire film over-reliant on visual effects, so it feels a lot longer than it really should.

Still, since The Chronicles of Riddick expanded upon the character of Richard B. Riddick which is the key thing Pitch Black failed to do, so I'm fairly pleased.
