Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) by Richard P — 28 Dec 2011
Looking at the opening weekend returns it looks like this could be the final outing for Chronicles of Narnia, in at least in current incarnation. Which is unfortunate for a two-fold reason. First I selfishly want to see this series come all the way through to it's completion. Secondly, while I thoroughly enjoyed this movie it would be a shame to end it with this one because this film is clearly a "middle of the storyline film" so it doesn't have complete resolution to it's story. It does resolve the storyline from the point of the Pevensie children but there is still so much to go.
As I was thinking of what to put in this review I think of the recent criticism of the latest Harry Potter film and how from the viewpoint of a casual film watcher the film seemed quite flat. Unfortunately, for those who haven't read the Narnia series might come away with the same feeling. Having read the novel (and all previous) I can definitely say that I have an emotional element that allows myself to enjoy the movie more than the casual film goer.
Weirder things have happend and perhaps worldwide returns could help in the return of the series but I have at least enjoyed the journey these movies have taken me thus far.
