While the film has many fine moments, it also has many draggy, poorly paced ones, too. The special effects are sometimes breathtaking, but often quite clumsy, too. The end result is an unformed mish-mash.
Had more care gone into it, the film might have ended up a timeless classic. But it falls far short of that mark.
