It's been many years since I read the books but I thought this was a strong adaptation. The kids at the matinee clearly agreed as there was a round of applause at the end (and they are tough critics.
) Really liked Tilda Swinton as the witch, great performance. The storyline has heavy overtones of the Crusades which may be disturbing to some parents, but most will enjoy it for what it is, a fantasy tale of good vs evil that still appeals to children today.
