Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) by Troy M — 23 Feb 2012
This is actually a bit better than what I expected for a Narnia sequel. I wish Liam Neeson had more screen time as Aslan because I don't really see him in a lot of movies anymore. There are some gags and stuff that were pretty dumb like when one of the evil generals gets eaten by the water god or whatever it was.
The jokes were decent, very interesting camera angles, the fights were well-executed, but I wish the climax would have been bigger than it actually was, and what the hell was with Caspian's Mexican accent, I thought this supposed to be an English tale.
I liked the nostalgia factor. Aslan's jump and the visual effects on him were better than L,W,&W. King Miraz I thought was way less menacing but enough compared to The White Witch in the first one.
I thought the release date should have been saved for this winter. Bottom line: if you liked the first Narnia, you'll probably enjoy this one as well or maybe more than the first. But to me, what was 2-and-a-half hours felt like 3-and-a-half hours of screen time, but I don't remember The Return of the King feeling that long even though it was.
So, if you liked the first one and just this genre entirely, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
