Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) by Jacob B — 13 Aug 2018
Prince Caspian was originally not as well regarded as the first film when it first came out probably due to the darker tone. Though with Game of Thrones, people seemed to have warmed up to what is essentially a more family-friendly Lord of the Rings at least if Reddit is anything to go by.
I didn't hate Lion, Witch and Wardrobe but I thought it was of a lower quality than when I first saw it. Now, Prince Caspian, in my opinion, is an even better sequel. It is essentially Disney's Game of Thrones even having Peter Dinklage in the movie.
The special effects are amazing, a step-up from the first film with wonderfully realized animation. You genuinely believe these actors are talking to creatures that aren't really there. There's a definite increase in action and I felt the impact with the characters.
I wanted the good guys to win. In a way, I found them even more thrilling than the battles in Lord of the Rings. Some gorgeous cinematography is on display here. Even with Narnia being a more savage place, it still looks extremely inviting.
Say what you want about Prince Caspian but I still think it's a lot better than the scores on RT and IMDb might imply.
