Review of The China Syndrome (1979) by Chris L — 24 Sep 2007
A thrilling classic which sadly does not get enough recognition as one of the best movies of the 1970s. Lemmon's performance drives this story of the immense danger surrounding a nuclear power plant after a faulty indicator comes within seconds of causing a meltdown.
Michael Douglas and Jane Fonda provide superb foils to Lemmon's performance (who deserved an Academy Award, but faced perhaps one of the roughest nominee-crowds of all time, one that included Al Pacino (.
..And Justice For All), Peter Sellers (Being There), and Roy Scheider (All That Jazz), and saw all four beaten out by Dustin Hoffman (Kramer Vs. Kramer). A superb classic.
