Review of The Center of the World (2001) by Tara F — 05 Dec 2011
A movie I liken to The Girlfriend Experience and Dancing at the Blue Iguana.
Not a super great movie, but worth an honorable mention in my vein of movies.
Richard convinces Florence, a stripper, to escort him on a business/ pleasure trip to Vegas. He tells her he just wants companionship and offers to pay her, she agrees to go along. His intentions are however, not pure and he wishes to charm her into a more meaningful relationship. He sets himself up to fall in love with her and believes that as he falls in love, she must naturally mutually fall in love with him. But Florence's intentions never change; this arrangement remains as it was, a business transaction.
The plot is linear and predictable, but is a classic tale of so many relationships, of the traps that many people cannot help but to ensnare themselves in.
Bonus: I also really like Peter Sarsgaard.
And there are boobies.
