Review of The Captive (2014) by Tom K — 02 Mar 2016
The Captive is at its absolute best when it lets Ryan Reynolds do his thing and carry the film, giving it the emotional weight it so desperately needs. However, the decision to go for a nonlinear narrative (as well as some questionable casting choices) spells doom for this movie.
The Captive simply tells us way too much, way too soon, preventing any sort of tension or consistent involvement on the audience's part.
