Review of The Captive (2014) by Rachael K — 21 Mar 2015
The movie wasn't great, but not bad. There was suspense, but nothing intense. I definitely wouldn't call it a thriller. The film jumps around a little, so you have to pay attention or you might get lost.
The plot really needed to be developed further. Details of the abduction would've helped this movie in addition to the details surrounding why this girl was chosen, or who the abductors are. How many people were involved in the abduction? Were there other children involved? You know other children have been targeted, but what about them? There was supposedly some heavily guarded ring, but only three men are involved? Seems weak to me.
It's not a stretch to say the story is vague and generic. The film mostly focuses on the tension of the parents, between each other and the police. I found the way they developed the mother of the abducted girl character really annoying.
It's a rentable movie if you can't find anything else, but nothing you'll want to add to your collection.
