Review of The Canyons (2013) by Wayne C — 09 Aug 2013
I wasn't bored but I am disappointed. For me, the problem is the script...or lack of same. Further, the story telling is muddled at best. I thought Lindsay Lohan was good enough considering the material and saw no signs of her off screen life effecting her performance.
James Deen was interesting but there is no way to tell if he can act based on what is shown here. The big 4-way sex scene is photographed and presented in a way that, for the most part, makes it impossible to determine who's what is supposed to be in one of the other participant's whatever.
Given the elements assembled here, and given the subject matter, this should have been a much better film. I was fascinated by the shots of closed movie theatres in the credits but have to ask the point.
And, frankly, I don't think the title fits the film since the action takes place all over Los Angeles and most is not even set in "the canyons".
