Review of The Call of Cthulhu (2006) by Blackity B — 16 Sep 2010
Pretty great effort all around, and this is a worthy adaptation of Lovecraft. The concept is indeed brilliant, and the only thing that gives it away that it's not really a silent-era movie is that it's shot in 24 fps, not 23 - which does make a difference in the fluidity of the movements.
But other than that, the actors were all great, and the filmmakers capture the terrifying, nightmarish, yet awe-inspiring mood of the mythos - or at least, as much as they can in 46 minutes, and on a limited budget. Cthulhu himself has a rather short and veiled appearance, but I can imagine how hard that must have been to film.
