Review of The Call (2013) by Kara D — 14 May 2014
Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin team up to defy logic in The Call. Although the movie did deliver in the mystery element, the mystery failed to lie in the plot but why a police officer was so struck by a kidnapping after working on the force for years.
Then, seemed smart at first but soon decides to play detective by herself when she could have the entire LAPD as her ally as if we're to justify it by understanding that she has some "personal vendetta" which she shouldn't, as kidnappings are not unheard of to a 911 call operator (no spoilers- it was all the trailer).
While I can say that the movie was rather suspenseful, or in better words, stressful...I could have saved the money by watching the trailer which basically lays out the plot for you. Although, it earns the star for some twists and a bit of suspense, it loses four for the illogical plot put in place to "keep the movie rolling" and the predictability.
Also the beginning is a rip off of taken. girl ripped from under bed. Guardian on phone giving direction. Talks to bad guy. Classic bad guy response. So, not original. Not very creative. Not very impressive.
Mildly interesting at times but would not recommend to a friend.
