Review of The Call (2013) by Carole T — 09 Oct 2015
If it was a made-for-tv, you could possibly give this 3 stars because the soundtrack helps with the "edge of your seat" events. But many times, I wasn'tt on the edge of my seat. Found myself many times sitting back and saying that's really stupid - but as an audience member this film demands you just go along with these absurd cliche moments.
The usual predictable moments where you knock the guy out - but you know he's coming back has been overdone ad nauseum. The "girl power" scene at the end is portrayed so stereo-typically that it is embarrassing and altogether useless when the rest of the whole movie's events is the opposite of that.
American films like this should take close note of more artistically crafted films from the Swede's like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo who can take a character beyond the "strong female" to transcend and let the viewer appreciate the heroism portrayed in the character and often times forgetting what the gender of that character is.
