Review of The Cabin in the Woods (2012) by Andre W — 07 Jul 2014
Simply put: The Cabin in the Woods is a horror game changer.
If you told me I would've written the above line before seeing this movie, I wouldn't have believed it. But here we are. The films hits on every level. It manages to stay loyal to horror fans with plenty of scares, but is also an excellent satire of the genre and most of the time is just hilarious. It's the most fun I've had at the movies since the The Artist. I laughed, I jumped and I was scared. It was suspenseful and entertaining. It played on every expectation of a horror film and just when I thought I knew what was going to come next, it pulled an unexpected twist that seemed too good to be true (and that I also didn't see coming).
I was as giddy as a little school girl as I watched this unexpected treat unfold and at one point I spontaneously started clapping because it so was awesome. I'm going to leave it at that and not ruin the surprise for you. Trust me and see this film (avoid talking to anyone about it before). The less you know, the better. And for once, the trailer didn't show everything, so it was definitely worth spending the night out.
It's the best horror film in years and the best movie so far this year surprising The Grey and The Hunger Games. You can't say you're a horror film fan and not see this. Kudos to Josh Whedon for this absolute gem that is sure to become a cult classic.
