Review of The Cabin in the Woods (2012) by Joe C — 10 Jun 2015
You know a genre has come full circle when the first breath of fresh air in years is an homage. After its cast and crew garnered more recognition from a series of good decisions, Cabin in the Woods was resurrected from a two year studio-limbo and finally horror film aficionados got the film they didn't even know they needed.
A nigh-on-impossible film to summarize without spoiling the surprise, Cabin in the Woods involves a, um, cabin in the woods, 5 not-so-stereotypical kids, a conspiring corporation and an INSANE finale that'll have your lower jaw scraping the floor.
Any more information compromises what really the most unbelievably ballistic film in recent memory. Genre adherents should really only proceed beyond this point, but even non-fans can appreciate the intelligent writing, sharp humor, great acting and unrelenting originality.
But that ending... three words come to mind; *F**k* Ing. Hell.
