Review of The Butler (2013) by Tor M — 30 Mar 2014
The Butler is the kind of movie that is just like predicted.
It's a big film. That's actually about it.
Big plot - politics, civil rights, racism and family issues. A big (and pretty weirdly put togheter) cast, there are so many well know faces here that it feels like a total overload. The acting is all right, Whitaker is the best one here he shows that he still got it.
The film is based on a true story (of course). It's history and a good film for younger audiences to learn something from. It's also clear and direct and no hidden stuff here, it really is spelled out for you.
The camerawork is straight forward and simple. It's a nice production, but it's not pushing any limits, to say it vaguely. This makes it flat and boring at times.
Not a bad film, it's just very typical. "The Help", witch was a pretty close film thematicly, was a lot better for me, this is just all right.
6 out ot 10 known actor bonanzas.
