Review of The Butler (2013) by Cris S — 19 May 2014

Boring. Just drags on through familiar territory, which is unfortunate, because what the film is about, is not boring but horrendous, monumental, and it changed our country for the better. It does not help a movie when every shot and every spoken word seems ripped from a made for Lifetime production.

This man and his family led an interesting and sometimes depressing life, but the film just glosses over certain things and just plods along, never pausing for a moment to offer insight and or reflect on the world.

Essentially, if you want bullet points and a slightly better than a Power point presentation, then The Butler will do just fine. Alfred Pennyworth's story, unfortunately this is not.
