Review of The Burning Plain (2008) by Ching T — 19 Sep 2009
Pretty powerful melodrama of several intersecting lives taking place during different timelines that come crashing together to force a woman on the edge of an emotional breakdown to confront her past demons and transgressions.
The acting by Charlize, Kim Basinger and the young girl who played Mariana were incredible. Kim, I have to mention, is really superb at playing battered fragile women. I"m giving it only 4 stars because the beginning was a bit choppy in setting things up, so it feels like this film couldn't live up to its own ambition.
Also, perhaps I watch too much CSI, but I fail to understand why a certain someone got away with "murder", so to speak.
