Review of The Brown Bunny (2003) by Thais H — 14 Jun 2007
The dooms of love...vincent gallo's latest conceptual film is a very intimate study of one character (bud) poignant and touching love back-story slowly unraveling an ending of doom. an ending that gives meaning to the preceding 90 mins which paints an emotionally scarred man. as bud travels across america in a clausterphobic black van moving aimlessly into loveless desolation, a heartbroken existence of nothingness reminiscing his one true love is revealed. daisy is her name. very dazing. very self-loathing. bud eventually finds daisy appearing in his hotel room begging apologetically for togetherness. the tension mounts as bud continually denies and resists her as his emotions shut down further to protect what little he has left. the controvertial, unsimulated, vengeful and loveless oral sex scene is made more bizarre and meaningful by bud's outbursts (pun intended) building up to an ending of fright and sorrow. the brown bunny was symbolized in 2 scenes-- as daisy's pet, and the mentioned chocolate rabbit gift. everyone's interpretation is unique and can be very personal. and bud will never find his daisy again. the stuff of true romantics.
Perhaps you care to empathize.
